I'm glad that this essay states that "we have reached the Resource Entropy Singularity". In many other essays you have implied that civilisation is "approaching" the RES. We are there.... and have been since at least 2015. Also, I'm glad that you point out that the BRICS, or "Multipolar World" is on the exact same trajectory as the power & commodity hungry western hegemonic order. No one in BRICS, least of all the President of the country with the greatest resources, Russia, seems to realise their more equitable trading partnership, is just a slightly different way to turn as much of the earth's low entropy resources, including forests, fresh water & fertile soils, into high entropy cities, suburban wastelands & e cars. It's just another economic program to kill the earth to feed 10 billion human scavengers. BRICS is just another entropic disaster. Cheers.
Thank you Steven for another great essay. Your conclusion reminds me of the scene in Douglas Adams ,The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, where they ask the supercomputer Deep Thought the ultimate answer to life the universe and everything, and Deep Thought, after 7 1/2 million years of computation replies 42.
Now we are scrambling to find the “Ultimate Question” it seems.
Picaso famously stated: "Computers only provide answers"
Asking the correct question is paramount.
Per G.W. Leibniz : "Why is there something rather than nothing?" is perhaps the foundational question. By asking what sufficient reason existence exists instead of non-existence, we necessarily conclude that the Principle of Sufficient Reason (PSR) is inherent in the fundamental substance of existence as a predicato inest subjecto.
Recursive application of the PSR provides answers to all subsequent questions that may be asked.
To deny the PSR one would have to invoke a sufficient reason for its non-existence in a self-referential contradiction.
Steven, old friend, your dissection of the Mars/WTI crude spread was a thrill to read. You’ve torn away Washington’s geopolitical fig leaf: bombing the Middle East and draining global liquidity is, at its core, a "Thermodynamic Margin Call" triggered by the depletion of heavy molecules.
I completely agree with your baseline physical diagnosis: the ERoEI of fossil fuels is falling off a cliff, and the $P_{maint}$ (Maintenance Power) sustaining the old Empire can no longer withstand the system's $F_{drag}$ (Entropic Drag). That "Leviathan on rails" you envision has indeed run out of fuel.
But in calculating the Empire's "endgame thermodynamic ledger," there might be a strategic phase space you've overlooked.
You assume that Washington draining global Eurodollars, imposing a 15% universal tariff, and even pillaging Venezuela’s heavy crude is all an effort to save this "rusting old train" (e.g., to fix the valves on the USS Gerald R. Ford, or to protect the margins of the PADD 3 refining complex). You define this as the "Autophagy Trap"—the Empire eating its own organs just to keep the brain alive for a few more hours.
Steven, in physics and biology, there is another explanation for "autophagy"—it's called "Metamorphosis."
The Empire is not waiting to die; it is executing an ambitious **"Dimensional Leap."** If we plug my deduced C.O.D.E. system into your thermodynamic model, you will see a completely different physical picture:
1. Stranded Exergy and Silicon Escape Velocity**
You astutely observed that light WTI has become "Stranded Exergy," with refineries choking on the wrong molecules. But Washington has its own absolute resolve: abandoning the salvation of the old physical manufacturing system. They are now deploying their remaining military hegemony and financial vacuum pumps to hoard the world's last remaining high-utility energy (Exergy)—not to maintain the old system (System A), but to capitalize a new thermodynamic Phase Space (System C, an AI-led network federation).
They are using the last dregs of low-ERoEI fossil fuels to subsidize gigawatt-scale "Stargate" data centers and SMRs (Small Modular Reactors). They are cold-bloodedly tearing apart the passenger cabins of the Snowpiercer to burn as firewood, not to keep the train running on the tracks, but to provide the initial launch thrust for the "Silicon Spacecraft" strapped to its roof.
2. The Systemic Hard Fork: R.I.C.E. Monopolizes Atoms, C.O.D.E. Monopolizes Bits
BRICS indeed cannot reverse the plunge in ERoEI. But this is exactly the ultimate survival logic of System B's R.I.C.E. engine: when aggregate physical resources are depleted, the right to survive will belong to the manufacturing network that can reduce "atomic friction" to the absolute minimum. Settling in gold is precisely to eliminate the dollar ledger—a friction tax with zero thermodynamic utility.
America's counter-strategy, meanwhile, is to completely abandon head-to-head collisions in the atomic dimension. The essence of System C's C.O.D.E. engine (Compute, Open protocols, Decentralized energy, Evolutionary speed) is to forsake the extremely heavy physical empire (no more building carriers, no more forging valves) and transition into a pure digital empire "Admin." You cannot measure the survivability of a cloud-based operating system using the ERoEI of an internal combustion engine.
Your judgment on the arrival of the "Resource Entropy Singularity" is incredibly accurate. But the singularity is not the graveyard of human industry; it is the labor pains of two fundamentally different civilizational operating systems being born.
The old America (System A) is indeed dying. But on the ruins of what you see as "autophagy," a Network State (System C) suspended above the Earth is being forcefully installed. Washington quietly uncoupled the locomotive from the passenger cars a long time ago; they are preparing to upload the Empire's consciousness to the cloud—to continue the competition against System B.
Thanks, that's very interesting. I am currently working on a response to a recent Warwick Powell interview which is along a similar line of reasoning. I'll reply to this comment in that essay. I agree in so much that it may well be the intent.
My old friend, hello — I’ve been quite busy lately and haven’t had the chance to properly read your new articles. You know, your pieces aren’t something one can finish in just ten minutes.
I’ve started a deep-dive series this week on the Iran war, and I look forward to your comments!
Your Conclusion "The Singularity is Hegemon-Agnostic" is absolutely critical!...Absolutely Critical!
Situation: Scale dependent maximization of negative sum game theoretic outcomes between competing G_r strategies, with all G_k lifeboats destroyed.
I observe a naive mass formation online against the existing Hegemon, in favour of BRICS, despite BOTH amounting to the same.
Thermodynamically, BRICS is stillborn because it seeks to allocate limited and rapidly dwindling biocapacity to a world majority, when there is only sufficient biocapacity for an ever dwindling minority.
"The only survival lies in stepping off the train and remembering how to build the GK lifeboats they tried so desperately to make us forget."
So, what does this look like to you? Hairshirts and horse power, living in mud huts and caves by fire light? Re-purposing rifles as atlatls after the ammunition runs out? Turning over rocks to eat worms after the soil wears out and the wild game has all been killed?
I've long thought that the future lies in taking personal control of our own food, but I don't know how to do that for more than a single-digit percentage of today's population.
I've seen the future, and it is powered by current photosynthesis. I'm just not sure I see any humans in that future.
Do you think post-crash, trees (and other biomass) will provide energy surplus for another round of extraction and contraction, as has been the case for, what, 6000 years? Further, do you think that the average lower SOL of BRICS, compared to the extractive zeniths of the West, could delay the collapse due to lower rates of depletion?
Excellent phrase. It ties into the hypercomplexity paradigm. 3rd derivative of the growth economy. Acceleration of acceleration - called jerk in calculus.
Don't be fooled by the vast amount of acreage in this map, above; Conoco's got its sweet spots for a reason. It's rollin' in Eddy County, but so is every other shaleco that has acreage in the Bone Springs in Eddy. Now that Lea HAS pooped out, when Eddy poops out, the Permian poops out.
This chart is very current (2026). I like these total C+C charts because they show how much faster annualized decline rates have become over the years, a direct result of over-drilling sweet spots, parent/child interference and pressure depletion. Which by the way isn't going to take a time out, pressure depletion, it will get exponentially worse over time.
Look at 2024 decline for COP, how much worse it is than say 2019. Too many damn wells on too close a spacing. Close your eyes, take a deep, calm breath, and imagine how much otherwise recoverable oil along a horizontal lateral (stimulated reservoir volume, or SRV) is being left behind because of pressure depletion. Its mind blowing, the waste.
So, in 2024 Conoco's wells declined over 54% in one year. I am sure there are good explanations for that, and Conoco would love to say, as it would like to explain why its 2025 production nose-dived. Its been averaging fewer than 200 HZ wells per year in the Permian, to plateau it will have to pick up the pace.
I don't sleep in the prolonged Permian Basin production plateau camp. Too many outside influences affecting that, like frac source water and produced water injection, GOR, remaining primo locations, CAPEX... and most of all, falling well productivity. From, what else but...pressure depletion.
When none of this shale oil stuff turns out like we are told, are people going to be mad they were duped? Will they remember how did the duping? Asking for a friend.
These are PR wars... fake... the purpose of faking them is to blame them for the global rationing of severely depleted oil and gas.
The morons cannot be told that perpetual high prices and raging inflation are the result of Peak Oil being surpassed. They would lose their minds.
Instead they are told these two wars are the cause... wars are temporary ... so the morons do not riot over the high prices... they accept them... because soon normalcy will return... and prices will flatten... and all will return to normal.
It is a brilliant piece of PR work. Bravo Ministry of Truth.
However I see what you are doing.
EXACTLY as predicted here, we are now being told that there are ‘work-arounds’ to partially offset the oil and gas that is supposedly not making it to market through Whoremooz. Of course, the work-arounds are not able to completely replace Whoremooz flows, but they are ‘hitting records’ and will prevent the world from collapsing.
The fake Iran War will continue just as the fake Ukraine War never ends.
Oil and gas prices will remain inflated ‘until the war ends’ as will overall inflation. But at least we will not be starving to death in a few weeks! Rejoice by taking a cold shower and be sure to jump a bus to work on Monday.
Eddy, if it isn't happening why redirect any of the oil? Surely faking the ship tracking and continuing normal operations would be much less effort than what you're suggesting? After all, you only need to get everybody to along with the story, they don't need their lives actually disrupted, that would be a pain.
On March 29, Dimitri Lascaris boarded an Iranian civilian vessel and toured the Strait of Hormuz for approximately one hour.
There, he observed and recorded the presence of nearly 100 oil tankers and cargo ships.
By all indications, commercial vessels continue to transit the Strait in significant numbers, but they now do so on terms dictated by the Islamic Republic.
I didn't think there could be anything as Democrat dumb as draining the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to buy midterm votes in 2022. Then, with the price of oil in the low $60's, Republicans didn't fill it back up in 2025, as promised. Now we're in a full-on air war and going to drain the SPR down to nothing. https://www.oilystuff.com/groups
If this is true... then surely prior to starting a war in a strategic location like Whoremooze... they might have filled up the tanks????
Oh right... they are stupid and incompetent and never thought of that....
Or maybe there as I have suggested no war... hormuz is open...
But they need to pretend so that they can tell 8B+ humans that they need to ration fuel and eat raging inflation ... cuz of war... not cuz we are running out...
War is temporary... suck it up... and soon it will be over and all will return to normal.
They are not redirecting any oil ... hormuz is open...
But they have to claim to be redirecting ... but 'not enough to fully compensate for hormuz'... and that will be the reason for the rationing that will be ongoing right until we collapse.
I am told Australia has less than 3 weeks of fuel storage - having already tapped reserves for a week or so...
In regards to your specific point. This is actually what Capitalists call a market failure. Demand is now falling faster than supply because nobody trusts there will be any more. When a business closes up shop and parks their logistics fleet, or a farmer cancels planting because they lose faith tomorrow will be like today, then this triggers a demand shock. Demand destruction causes prices to fall.
Demand for diesel cannot fall significantly... because mining... because food production... if demand falls significantly the supermarkets would have bare shelves...
That is not happening... there are 0 shortages... everything is normal.
That is because Hormuz is not closed... there is no 'work-around' (if there was don't ya think Iran would blow that up too?).
All clips taken with 2-3 days of a 'massive bombing campaign in Kyiv'... that knocked them into the stone age... power plants destroyed etc...
I suggest you watch them... life is NORMAL in that bombed out city - all lights are on ... people are shopping - traffic ... no damage at all
It would be the same with Hormuz... just a bit difficult to get videos other than that fake stuff we are seeing... sure the US probably fires off a few missiles and rockets here and there... like live fire exercises... for photo opps...
Does this video not concern you? Do you not think this is fake?
Okay, Eddy, let's step into your headspace for a second. Even if you're right and the events in the Gulf or Ukraine are an elaborate production to trick the world—it doesn't matter. Whether the war was 'real' or a theatrical performance is a distraction. Its function was to remove the energy partnership between Russia and Europe, making the latter entirely dependent on the US LNG export market, the starvation of East Asian refineries removes the network of trade in Asia and Oceania.
Regarding Hormuz, whether the oil is gone due to depletion or interruption doesn't matter. Whether the force majeure by East Asian refineries is performative (they're really continuing to supply gratis having just terminated the financial contracts) or real, it definitely happened. Either the diesel is coming for free or it isn't coming at all. I wonder which it is?
As long as the logistics continues shelves will be stocked. It won't be gradual. The deliveries arrive or they don't. You say there are '0 shortages' because you see full shelves today. In a just-in-time economy, logistics is an 'On/Off' switch. A supermarket is either 100% stocked or 0% stocked. The 'normalcy' you see is just the latency of the buffer.
As for Nord Stream, it was never about the pipelines being damaged, for Germany it was always *officially* about 'punishing Russia' for the crime of holding Europe hostage to Russian natural gas and the events in Ukraine (initiated by the US) . It was symbolic. You ask why they haven't fixed the pipes. It’s because the destruction was the goal. It provided the cover to de-industrialize Europe, effectively 'gifting' that saved exergy to the US Military Industrial Complex. It wasn't 'rational' for the German worker, but it was perfectly rational for an elite class that has already moved its loyalty to the US Exergy Fortress.
Don't imagine things are any better here in the Thames Valley, UK. The structural dependency on imports is just as bad, with much higher population density.
Do it's about the US being able to sell high-priced energy to Europe... and not about the North Sea oil crashing and there simply no longer being enough gas to go around.... i.e. Peak Oil and Gas...
Forcing Germany to eat expensive LNG is destroying it's industrial base... (same with the UK)... Europe will collapse if it cannot get affordable energy.
Ya think the US does not know this???? Why would they insist on killing a supplier of critical machinery and spare parts that are required for BAU?
Oh ... and if you read Oilystuff... the heart of the melon has been drilled out ... shale is very near to crashing.... ah.. yes ... those dumb Americans -- let's just blast and suck up dregs harder and send the gas to Europe to make $$$$$$$.
Are you for real? There is ZERO logic to any of your arguments.
As for Nordstream so Germany is willing to commit suicide to punish Russia... if so why did they not simply STOP BUYING THE FUCKING GAS??????
If anything... heavy users of diesel e.g. mines ... farms ... transport companies would be HOARDING diesel... they should be filling up all their storage tanks...
If there is demand destruction -- then I should be looking at empty shelves in supermarkets... nope... I went yesterday -- BAU... nothing out of stock.
Additionally - professional stock traders and their researchers are paid big bucks to predict the future.... a RE tarded MORON would be able to predict disaster for a range of companies that rely on a constant supply of affordable diesel.
For instance -- minining companies. If as you and your friends at BBCCNN are right - Whoremooz is closed... and Australia will run out of diesel in less than 3 weeks... then analysts at the banks know this... traders know this....
So there should be massive short positions on minining company stocks... the market should be crashing....
Now this is odd... the market is going UP the closer we get to D Day...
Also mining companies bonds would be in huge trouble as the assumption would be that they won't be able to service their debts... no diesel - no mining companies... the entire bond market should be imploding....

European gas storage has dropped to roughly 28% capacity as of late March 2026, the lowest level for this time of year since 2022, driven by a harsh winter and high demand. This critical depletion, with some countries like the Netherlands dropping below 6%, threatens a challenging, high-cost refill season to meet energy. https://oilprice.com/Energy/Natural-Gas/StanChart-Europes-Gas-Prices-Could-Spike-Above-90MWh-By-The-Summer.html

It would be the same with Hormuz... just a bit difficult to get videos other than that fake stuff we are seeing... sure the US probably fires off a few missiles and rockets here and there... like live fire exercises... for photo opps...
Does this video not concern you? Do you not think this is fake?

And finally - The Question nobody responds to - AGAIN...
Severely damaged undersea gas pipelines can be repaired in 6 or so months. Why has Nordstream not been repaired????
Repairing it would reduce Germany's and Britain's reliance on very expensive LNG... and their economies could revive.
It's been 3+ years now.....
You see... this is the litmus test... it is the question that has no logical answer other than ... it was never blown up
You continue to avoid... at risk of being labelled a circus animal

Thank You, Steven, I will excerpt this and link to it at the front end of the post I am composing.

Do it's about the US being able to sell high-priced energy to Europe... and not about the North Sea oil crashing and there simply no longer being enough gas to go around.... i.e. Peak Oil and Gas...
In case you hadn't noticed.. Germany supplies a lot of high tech gear to the world including quite a bit of the stuff used in energy production including shale oil and gas https://tradingeconomics.com/germany/high-technology-exports-us-dollar-wb-data.html
In case you missed this ... Russia is STILL supplying Europe with gas https://fasteddynz.substack.com/p/when-is-a-ban-not-a-ban

Of course you will continue to default to what BBCCNN tells you because you lack the ability or willingness to question anything.
BTW - you never answered my question - have you take the Covid vaccine?
That is my litmus test for true intelligence.
Eddy, something I meant to ask: How's the view from Vault 111?
The view is awesome - sunny ... but there are a lot of ships in the harbour... I am concerned this guy might get run over...
Not seeing any naval mines though ... but I am sure they are there... BBCCNN said so hahahahaha

Fucking Clown World
You are trying to convince me that demand destruction is why Australia's diesel prices dropped 20% over the weekend.
We are told we have about 3 weeks of diesel remaining in storage.
In what world do prices go down when there the tank is nearly empty?
Oh right... in the world where they water crops with Brawndo ... https://fasteddynz.substack.com/p/idiocracy-20-zoolander-20/
If anything... heavy users of diesel e.g. mines ... farms ... transport companies would be HOARDING diesel... they should be filling up all their storage tanks...
Jerry cans should be SOLD OUT... nope https://www.bunnings.com.au/adventure-products-20l-diesel-fuel-can-and-pourer_p3400262
ASX 200 materials led the market sectors last week, rising 4.6% as mining shares began recovering from this month's sell-off. https://www.fool.com.au/2026/03/29/asx-200-mining-shares-rebound-after-march-sell-off-creates-opportunities-week-13-2026/
Also mining companies bonds would be in huge trouble as the assumption would be that they won't be able to service their debts... no diesel - no mining companies... the entire bond market should be imploding....
